Pure Kush by Green House Seed Co.

Look for the pink: this OG Kush selection was picked for the rosy blush that creeps over its calyxes and pistils late in bloom.

Green House Seed Co. did not build Pure Kush from a new cross. The breeder isolated one OG Kush phenotype it liked for its colour, its weight and its strength, and now offers that plant only as feminised seed. For a collector it is the house's plain answer to the question of what straight Kush should look like, with no fashionable hybrid layered on top.

The breeder describes the smoke as sweet and nutty. Growers add lemon, mint and a woody, sandalwood finish, with a faint syrupy sweetness when the buds are broken up.

Effects come on quickly and settle in the body: the breeder calls it a heavy, couch-locking stone with a narcotic edge at larger doses, so it belongs to the evening. Medical users report reaching for it to ease aches and muscle tension.

In the garden it stays short and dense, and the breeder says it does its best work in a screen of green. Indoors the breeder quotes up to 900 g/m² after nine to ten weeks of bloom, while outdoor plants in the northern hemisphere finish from late September into early October at up to 900 g each. Buds set hard and compact with very little leaf, so trimming goes quickly, and the breeder rates it easy to grow.

Bred by Green House Seed Co., founded in Amsterdam in 1994 by Arjan Roskam and Scott Blakey, a house that also runs coffeeshops in the city.
