Long before the dozens of crosses that carry its name, White Widow was simply a plant so frosted it looked as if it had come through a snowstorm.
It joins a Brazilian sativa to a South Indian indica. Who made it first is still argued over: Green House's own account has it starting in the late 1980s under another name, with Arjan Roskam obtaining parent plants in 1992 and making his cross in 1994, while co-founder Scott Blakey is widely credited with developing the line.
The nose is hash and fresh-cut wood; the flavour comes back to hash, softened by a little vanilla.
The breeder describes a relaxed indica feel at first that opens into a strong sativa-style high, quick to arrive and slow to fade. Users call it energising and thought-provoking, a Widow for the afternoon.
Resin is the point: buds frost over heavily, and the breeder notes good resistance to mould. Expect eight to nine weeks of bloom, breeder yield figures between 400 and 800 g/m² indoors and up to 900 g a plant outdoors, harvested from late September into early October in the northern hemisphere. Packs can throw a tall, stretchy sativa type and a short, compact indica type, and growers report strong results in a screen of green and in hydro.
