More than a million seeds sold, by the breeder's own count, and still the Skunk that Dutch Passion steers newcomers towards.

The line grew out of the house's Skunk selection programme in the 1980s, working from Skunk #1 and its landrace base of Afghani, Acapulco Gold and Colombian Gold. The aim was a stable, dependable Skunk that kept the classic loud character, and #11 was the selection that earned a place in the catalogue.

The smell is pungent and earthy, laced with spice and pine. Some plants throw a cheesy edge, while others turn sharper and more acidic.

Dutch Passion calls the high medium rather than knockout: a balanced hybrid that relaxes the body and lifts the mood without the sparkle of a true sativa. It is a steady, sociable Skunk rather than a sleeper.

Growers find it robust and forgiving, and the breeder advises a light hand with nutrients. Flowering averages about nine weeks, with phenotypes running from seven to eleven. Indoors the breeder quotes 500 to 600 g/m², and in warm, dry, sunny climates outdoor plants can pass three metres and give 500 g to 2 kg. The heavy colas need support late in bloom, the odour calls for fresh carbon filters, and it is not recommended for cool northern summers.
