Chilli heat on the nose and rose on the tongue: Big Tooth smells like nothing else in the Strain Hunters range.
Arjan Roskam collected the parents himself, three lines from before the hybrid boom: an Afghan, a Hawaiian sativa and a Nepalese hash plant. The point of the cross, in the breeder's words, was to win back the vigour and the original cannabinoid balance that decades of modern crossing had worn thin. It comes out 60% indica.
Unburned buds give off hot spice and crushed chilli with a sharp chemical edge. Lit, it turns woody and herbal, with a faint trace of rose petals and blossom.
This is a fast hitter with a short, sharp peak, then an unpredictable ride where bursts of energy trade places with spells of couch-lock. Reported uses centre on appetite, though the breeder says formal evaluation of its effects is still under way.
In the garden it grows to medium height, compact and bushy, with 8 to 12 cm between nodes, and it shrugs off cold. The Hawaiian side lends resistance to pests and damp. Buds come large and dense with long hairs and a habit of foxtailing, often darkening late in flower and drying to a brownish tone. The breeder gives 8 to 9 weeks indoors at 0.8 to 1 g per watt, and 9 to 10 weeks outdoors for up to 1 kg a plant.
