Not part of the Chemdawg family: this Top Dawg is Barney's Farm's own Mexican and Afghan cross, and it smells of pineapple.
The breeder crossed a Mexican sativa with an Afghan, using the Afghan side to add weight, resin and a firmer finish to the Mexican's brightness. It is a straightforward, old-school pairing from the house's early years and has long since left the current catalogue, so it sits well in a collection of classic Amsterdam hybrids.
The breeder describes a distinct pineapple smell and taste. Growers add a sharp pine and eucalyptus edge, a little like menthol rub, that stays smooth on the exhale, and they warn the smell is loud in flower.
Growers describe a quick head rush of a quarter of an hour or so that fades into steady body calm, and the breeder credits the Afghan genetics with a strong stone. It reads as an evening strain.
Breeder figures give 9 to 10 weeks of flowering, with an outdoor harvest in early October, and the breeder rates it for SCROG and sea of green set-ups. It produces large, thick buds that the breeder says are easy to manicure. Growers find it forgiving, very branchy and sticky, happy with a full feed, and report hard, compact buds with a good bud-to-leaf ratio once dried.
