Purple Wreck by DNA Genetics

Grape candy on top and Trainwreck's old Northern California fire underneath, bred to give a sweet but slow purple cut some real get up and go.

The breeders took Purple Urkle, the squat, grape-scented West Coast favourite, and crossed it with their T4 Trainwreck male specifically to lift the Urkle's vigour. Trainwreck itself traces back to Northern California in the late 1970s, so this is old Californian stock on both sides, and the line also appears under Reserva Privada, DNA's sister label.

In the breeder's words the Urkle's sweetness runs the show, a fruity West Coast nose. Growers pick out grape and mixed berries, with an earthy, gassy note that only arrives once it is lit.

It leans relaxing and full-bodied, with a euphoric start and enough Trainwreck brightness to keep the head clear before the sleepy side takes over. Users report it for quieting a busy mind at night, for poor sleep and for general aches.

Plants stay short, which suits tight rooms and tents, and fill out with large purple colas alongside Trainwreck-style spears carrying a hint of colour. DNA lists 8 to 9 weeks of flower and 400 to 500 g/m², indoors or out.

A DNA Genetics cross from Don and Aaron, the Los Angeles breeders behind more than 180 awards and a 2009 place in the High Times Seedbank Hall of Fame.
