Picture a melon ice lolly with a splash of sangria poured over it, and you are close to the smell of a MelonSicle room in late flower.
This is the second release in the Bastards Line, a collaboration between T.H. Seeds and Shiloh. The breeders spent a long time hunting for a truly juicy watermelon terpene, and ended up stacking three fruit strains to get it: Forbidden Fruit, itself Cherry Pie x Tangie, with Watermelon Zkittlez and Watermelon.
Ripe melon and grape lead, over a creamy, sweet base with a winey, mixed-fruit depth. The smell is strong from the vegetative stage on, so a carbon filter earns its keep.
The breeder describes a hard-hitting, heady start that settles into happy, creative good humour with a calm, relaxed body. One grower found the feel more indica than the 60% sativa split suggests.
Plants run 130 to 160 cm, slender and not very leafy, with long gaps between nodes that let air through and make trimming quick. They respond well to topping or a screen of green, flower for 8 to 9 weeks and are rated at 550 to 650 g per square metre, with outdoor plants ready in October. Late in flower the dense, sticky buds turn green to purple with flashes of pink, mauve and orange, and the resin returns well for hash.
