The 1980s original was refreshed with a genetic update in 1997.

Squeeze a bud and it turns fruity and citrus, but the base note is earthy hash, pine and frankincense, with a herbal, incense edge. The smoke is mostly pine and earth with a flicker of fruit.

The breeder describes a fast, powerful effect, often felt within a few puffs, that leans to the body: happy, familiar, meditative, with heavy limbs that can last for hours. It has long had a following among medical users as well as recreational ones.

Plants grow medium-sized in a Christmas-tree shape with thick branches and a two to three week stretch. Compact phenotypes suit a sea of green, while the more hybrid ones prefer a screen. Flowering averages eight weeks, some take nine or ten, for 400 to 500 g/m2. The breeder advises keeping temperatures to 25 to 27C with low humidity, as the heavy buds may need support.

Awards

2nd place, Indica, High Times Cannabis Cup, Amsterdam 1999
2nd place, Bio (seedbanks), Highlife Cup, Netherlands 2002

Lineage

Afghani x Skunk #1

Type

Indica-dominant hybrid

Seed type

Feminised

Flowering time

About 8 weeks (some 9 to 10)

Yield

400 to 500 g/m2

Indoor/outdoor

Indoor, or outdoor in warm climates

Terpenes

Hash, pine, frankincense, citrus

THC

Around 20% (breeder figure)

Dutch Passion, one of the world's oldest seedbanks, says it introduced feminised seed in the 1990s.

Collector's notice: this pack is sold as a sealed souvenir and novelty item for adults aged 18 and over.
